In 1952 James P. Summers, and his wife, Millie opened
a funeral home at 188 East State St., Albion, PA. In 1978 Mr. and
Mrs. Summers sold their business to Samuel J. Steff. The devastating
Albion tornado in May 1985 completely destroyed the funeral home
which was rebuilt to a model facility to serve the west Erie county
area.
The funeral home still stands at 188 E. State Street
and at the corner of the property, a permanent memorial garden to
the victims of the Albion Tornado blooms in remembrance of the individuals
who lost their lives. On January 1, 1988, Samuel J. Steff, purchased
the William H. Houghton Funeral Home, Linesville, PA and it is known
as the William H. Houghton Funeral Home, branch of the Samuel J.
Steff Funeral Home.
The Houghton Funeral Home had continuously served
Linesville and West Crawford County for over 50 years was closed
on June 30, 2006 after being purchased by Kevin Royal of the Royal-Colman
Funeral Home, 6028 US Higway 6, Linesville, PA, phone 814-683-4111.

Sam
comments, “I consider my profession as a ministry of the Lord
and I strive to provide each family with the individual service
that reflects the life of their loved one. We have had horse drawn
carriages to an entourage of 20 some trucks in our funeral processions.
I work with each family to insure that they have the opportunity
to express their feelings and love”.
